Theme: Trompe-l'oeil, or nothing is what it seems

We take the things we see for granted. But are they? Sometimes reality and fiction blend into each other. We are guided by our perception and draw our conclusions based upon our senses. But what if our senses deceive us?

Creating the perfect illusion is the purpose of the trompe-l'oeil technique. From street art to ceiling paintings in cathedrals, or the suggestion of a building painted on a blank wall, which in fact is as flat as a pancake ... the optical illusion deceives the eye! The eye is not only deceived by optical illusions, but also by imitations. Some examples:  ceramic imitates jasper, rhinestone imitates diamond, and lace imitates jewels ... They are not only cheap substitutes for exclusive materials. The function of an object can also be deceptive. The art of illusion also appears in the fashion world. In the 18th and 19th century, wigs and false bottoms were used to disguise as well as to glorify.
